How High-Impact Construction Projects Fuel America’s Economy

Each week, we hear of multi-million dollar construction projects like the new Apple campus in Austin. Or Facebook’s new data center in Altoona, Iowa expected to cost around $400 million to build. Many cities are adding new light rail projects to improve their transit authority. Recently, a battle ensued between the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) over damage that could be done by the work on a 66-inch water main that would provide drinking water to Prince George’s County.

Is America’s Economy Still Strong?

But what does all this mean? Basically, it means that America’s economy is still strong despite the damage done by Trump’s troubled tariff policies. It is a sad situation to see America’s farmers suffering. They can’t earn the money they need to keep their farms running and feed their families. We all have bills to pay and we need to get that paycheck every week.

Most economists have stated that the average family in America is only 3 paychecks away from financial ruin. But as long as we still have these large corporations investing billions of dollars each year on new facilities and data centers, we can see that our economy is still viable. There are lots of improvements we could make. For instance, our infrastructure in many cities is in rocky condition.

Should Facebook, Microsoft, Apple and Amazon Help Rebuild America’s Infrastructure?

Most city governments simply don’t have the funding to repair roads and bridges. But when a large company moves into an area, such as Austin, Texas, they do invest in the city’s infrastructure. As Mark Zuckerberg builds his $400 million data center in Iowa, he has already stated that he will help to build new roads. His company will also build a larger water treatment plant in the area. These are notable construction projects that will truly help the US economy.

Though our local governments are often struggling financially, these large corporations like Apple, Microsoft and Facebook do have the money to undergird our infrastructure. And if they’re enjoying the profits that big tech companies are now reporting, it is their duty to contribute to building and rebuilding America’s infrastructure.

America’s Free Economy

This country is a place where people can come and make a new start. We are blessed to have a free economy where anyone can build a business and become successful with a little wisdom and hard work. America has always welcomed immigrants and our nation was built by people from all over the world.

The Statue of Liberty was given to us by the French. It stands 151 feet tall and weighs 450,000 pounds. It stands proudly in New York Harbor. It says:

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Immigrants Have Built Our Nation

Though Americans have always understood our importance and standing in the world, many are not as open to welcoming those huddled masses yearning to be free.

The richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, comes from a family of immigrants. His birth name is Jorgensen, which is Norwegian. His great grandparents probably came to America in the early 1900’s on one of those ships.

Bill Gates, who gave us the Personal Computer (PC) along with Office 365, Xbox and many of the popular coding languages, has an Irish/Scottish background. His great grandparents too probably came to America through Ellis Island along with so many others. Our nation has been blessed to have so many intelligent hard-working immigrants who poured out their blood, sweat and tears so that we could enjoy the free nation that we see today.

Hopefully, Americans will find a way to again accept immigrants and allow them to move here. We will recognize and appreciate the great contribution that immigrants have made to our culture and economy.
