New Baseball Stadium, Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX Begins to Take Shape

Globe Life Field, the 1.7 million-square-foot ballpark currently being built in Arlington, Texas is moving forward at a good pace. At the moment, construction workers are pouring the first of 725 concrete columns which will support the baseball field’s vertical development.

The overall cost of the new ballfield is estimated to be $1.1 billion and developers have designed a unique retractable roof such as the one on the old Dallas Cowboys stadium in Irving, TX. Parts of the roof will be transparent to offer a good view of nature, but unlike the Dallas Cowboys stadium, the entire roof will be enclosed to provide comfort for guests.

Bryan Trubey, executive VP and director of sports and entertainment for Dallas-based HKS Inc. designed the stadium. He commented that the Texas Rangers wanted to build an “open-air ballpark with a roof on it” and that the project was quite challenging.

Trubey went on to say, “We really wanted to create the first next-generation ballpark. We didn’t want to design another incremental ballpark but make an epic and game-changing improvement.”

Facts About Globe Life Stadium

The stadium broke ground on 9.28.17. It will have five gates and 725 concrete columns that will support the massive structure.  1.3 million cubic yards of dirt (or 97,000 truckloads) were removed from the site before construction began. The site covers about 13 acres in the Mid Cities area between Dallas and Fort Worth. When complete, the stadium will be able to handle 40,000 baseball enthusiasts. The field is expected to open in March of 2020.

Due to its size and central location, Globe Life Field will hold all types of events once it is completed. In addition to sporting events, the ballpark will also host concerts, athletic competitions, and festivals.

The new 40,000-seat ballpark is situated next to the current Texas Rangers ballpark. Other developers are taking advantage of this new crowd-pleasing stadium to build additional attractions for tourists and baseball fans alike.
